What, where, and when does Mrs. Fimon like to read? These four fifth graders found out the answers to these questions and learned even more about the new Mrs. Fimon.
Do you like seeing movies that are based on books?
The answer is sometimes. I have to say just sometimes because usually if there’s a book that I really like I don’t want to see the movie because I’ve already got the pictures for it in my head. For example I’ve read the book The Giver and I’ve got these images in my head of how I picture everyone. I’ve seen the movie preview and it doesn’t match with what I’ve imagined at all, so I don’t want to see that movie.
But there are some movies based on books that I really like. Holes is a good example. Most of the dialogue was kept the same as it was in the book and overall it was kept very similar.
I get annoyed with the tiniest details being changed. Even the hair or eyes being changed bothers me.
Oh, yes, me too.
What was the last book you read?
For a book that I read on my own it was The Maze Runner over the summer. There are 4 books in the series. I’ve only read the first one but I thought it was really good.
I don’t find a lot of time to read on my own during the school year because I am always reading books with my class. Right now I’m reading Bud, Not Buddy with a literature circle in my class. I don’t know why I had never read it before, but now I finally am.
Where do you like the read?
I love to read outside and in a comfy chair.
When do you like to read?
I like to read right before I fall asleep but I lose my page a lot because I fall asleep with the book right on top of me.
When I was little my mom said I could stay up as late as I wanted on Friday nights as long as I was reading. I remember the first time I made it up to midnight. I was so proud of myself!
Do you like reading out loud to a group or would you rather read alone?
I love reading out loud. I think I got that from my mom because she read to me all the time. She was my fifth grade teacher so she read to me in school then too.
I like doing all the voices and going faster when the book gets more intense and slower when the action slows down.
Are you in a book club?
I’m not in a book club. I wish I was. Being in literature circles with my fourth graders or listening to them talk is kind of like being in a book club though.
What is your favorite book? Did you have a favorite as a child?
All of my life I’ve really liked mysteries and historical fiction, so I liked the American Girl books and the Dear America books. The authors of the Dear America books write as if they are people from different time periods and they write it like a diary. There are ones set in the Revolutionary War and one on the Titanic. Actually, I see the Titanic book over there on the shelf. You might want to check those out.
I also really liked the Boxcar Children series and the Encyclopedia Brown books because you get to solve the mystery and then you can check the answer in the back of the book.
Who is your favorite character? Do you think you are like him or her?
That’s a good question. Hmm . . . I think Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables is my favorite, maybe because I had a best friend growing up who was a lot like Anne. She would share her opinion at any moment and she was very creative. She even had red hair and freckles like Anne. Our moms would call her Anne and I would be Diana (who was Anne’s best friend in the book) but I didn’t like being called Diana. I just wanted to be myself.
Mrs. Fimon's Turn to Ask a Question:
Are there any good book series that you would recommend?
The Spirit Animals. It’s about people who drink a thing called the nectar when they are 11 and they sometimes summon their spirit animals.
I have two. I don’t know if there’s a series name. They are graphic novels. The first one is Smile and the second one is Sisters. Also Amulet, it’s fiction and they are graphic novels too I think. I’ve read about 6 of them.
I like series with a lot of books. Then if you get to the end and you’re worried about someone who might die or something like that, you know there is more to read.
That’s how I felt when I was reading Harry Potter.
