"You need to work together"
"Don't always do the same thing"
"Do what you believe in"
"Don't tell strangers stuff about yourself"
I was impressed that so many guesses were spot on, and several times students suggested morals that I hadn't even considered but were equally valid! Try sharing a favorite fable with your child and see what you can come up with for a moral. If you would like some inspiration, check out BBC School Radio's free online collection of Aesop's Fables. Each fable includes an audio recording and a printable transcript so you can read along with the storyteller.
In addition to enjoying fables this week, we have been talking about how to locate a call number on a book and what it means. The students have learned that a call number is just like a book's address: it tells you where in the library that book "lives".
Next week I will have a chance to meet with the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Focusing on historical fiction has been great, but now it's time to get excited about a new genre. Stay tuned to find out what it is!
